About Us
The Alaska State Hospital and Nursing Home Association held its first formal meeting in 1953 in order to fulfill a need for a territory-wide organization that could represent health facilities in the Territorial Legislature. Since 1953 ASHNHA has grown in size and stature as a prominent health care policy voice.
Hospital and Nursing Home care, at its core, is people caring for people. The membership of our association - hospitals, nursing homes and other health care organizations - is made up of people working to improve health for every Alaskan and provide quality and affordable care for all. We serve as leaders in meeting the critical challenges and issues facing the health of our communities.
ASHNHA’s goals are to:
Promote recognized best-practice measures that will improve members’ performance as centers of excellence in providing health care to their patients.
Advocate the enactment and promulgation of just and reasonable laws and regulations dealing with cost, quality and access to health care. These laws and regulations must always be centered on the goal of continuing to improve the overall health status of all Alaskans.
Provide opportunities for ongoing professional and educational skills enhancement of our members.
Foster optimum cooperation between ASHNHA members and other health care providers.
Assist ASHNHA members in their readiness to respond to all types of local, regional and statewide disasters including a pandemic.
Promote professionalism and ethical behavior in all aspects of business conducted by ASHNHA and its affiliate organizations: Alaska Small Hospital Performance Improvement Network (ASHPIN), Alaska Program Services Company Inc, and Alaskans for Access to Health Care (ACCESS).
Pursue all opportunities possible to promote these goals, as well as those objectives identified in the annual ASHNHA strategic plan approved by its membership.
